News From Around Hartford County

The HCFEP has now developed an e-mail database for the purpose of exchanging information with its members and others in a timely and effective manner. This new users group will initially be used to send an electronic version of the County Hoseline newsletter. In the future other information can be exchanged as well. Ok, you are probably wondering what will happen to those that don't have a computer or access to one. Don't worry, you will still be able to receive the Hoseline by mail by just writing to me at PO Box 447, Plainville, CT. 06062, fax me at 860 747-2137 or e-mail me at johnsechcfep@yahoo.com and your name will be added to the mail list.

The Hartford County Hoseline provides members of the fire service with important information regarding the Hartford County Fire Emergency Plan, such as Upcoming Meetings and Training Classes. It also contains news and events from the fire departments that make up the membership. To subscribe to the email of the Hoseline go to our website www.hcfep.org and go to the site Join Email Group

The Board of Directors would like to ask all County Fire Chiefs to take the time to speak to their Fire Chaplain to see if they would be interested in becoming the Hartford County Fire Chaplain. One of their focuses would be to work with the other Fire Chaplain in the County in hosting the Annual Hartford County Memorial Service which is held in October. If anyone is interested and needs more information on this position please contact me, John Coelho by e-mail johnsechcfep@yahoo.com fax number 860 747-2137 or by dropping a line to PO Box 447 Plainville, CT. 06062.

From The Desk of the Secretary: John Coelho

To all County Chiefs, Training Officers and House Captains, If there are any changes or information about your department that needs sharing, please let me know ASAP, so that I can include it in the next print of the Hoseline. If there has been a line of Duty Death, a department member has answered his or hers last alarm, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can make sure that their name is added to the list and not forgotten at the Annual Hartford County Memorial Service which is held in October during National Fire Prevention Week. Also if someone is sick or in the hospital please forward me their name so it can be read off at the board meetings and plan meetings.

This Month's Poem

Our website at www.hcfep.org is always adding new information and by browsing around you can find interesting tidbits and other sites that might grab your curiosity. This month's poem is one that I had found and would like to share it with you.

Rank Definition....

Chief
Leaps short buildings with a single bound. Is more powerful than a ladder truck. Is faster than a speeding bullet. Walks on water. Gives Policy to GOD.
Deputy Chiefs
Leaps short buildings with a single bound. Is more powerful than a pumper. Is just as fast as a speeding bullet. Walks on water if sea is calm. Talks with God.
Assistant Chief
Leaps short buildings with a running start and favorable winds. Is almost as powerful as a pumper. Is faster than a speeding BB. Walks on water in indoor swimming pools. Talks with GOD if special request is approved.
Engineer
Barely clears Quonset hut. Loses tug-of-war with pumpers. Can fire a speeding bullet. Swims well. Is occasionally addressed by GOD.
Captain
Makes high marks on buildings when trying to leap them. Is run over by a pumper. Can sometimes handle a gun without inflicting self-injury. Dog paddles in swimming pools. Talks with animals.
Lieutenant
Runs into buildings when trying to leap them. Recognizes pumpers two out of three times. Is not allowed to use guns. Can stay afloat if properly instructed in the use.
Sergeant
Falls over doorstep when trying to enter buildings. Points and says,"Look at the pretty fire engine" Wets himself with a water pistol. Plays in mud puddles. Mumbles to himself.
Firefighter
Lifts buildings and walks under them. Kicks fire engines and equipment out of the way. Catches speeding bullets in his teeth and eats them. Freezes water with a single glance. He is GOD.
